"I love snowdrops. I used to start looking for them at the end of January. They were always faithful and bloomed for a very long time, even after being snowed or sleeted on. They never looked anything but alert and bright in the dreary winter landscape. They always amazed me...how such a fragile beautiful little flower could face the difficult weather elements and still hold their heads high. They were delicate and strong. I think of them every January and wonder how they are doing."

Name: Dustin

Age: 6

Diagnosis: Burkitt's lymphoma tumor / type B-cell leukemia

Short Biography: This is Dustin. Know what he got for his sixth birthday?

Well, it wasn't exactly on his birthday.  This was a belated party crasher.

See, Dustin was diagnosed in August of 2005, just 20 days after his 6th birthday with a Burkitt's lymphoma tumor / type B-cell leukemia.
Cancer doesn't care if it's your birthday.

Dustin was life-flighted to Texas Children's Hospital in Houston with 48 hours left to live.  Six years and twenty-two days and it was all supposed to end.  Fortunately, things don't always happen the way they are supposed to.

In May of 2006, thanks to the doctors and nurses at Texas Children's Cancer Clinic, Dustin was declared cancer free.  He's back to doing the things six-year-old boys do...playing baseball, excelling in school and he has a new head of hair.

But his life isn't without disruptions.  He'll have check-ups every 4 weeks for the next year in hopes the cancer will not return.

Thanks to Dustin's parents, Luther and Cathleen, for providing Snowdrop Foundation this information.
